An enlarged prostate is a common condition in which the prostate grows and places pressure on the urethra resulting in urinary symptoms in men. This condition is known as BPH or Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. The word "benign" signifies non cancerous.
Is BPH a common condition in men?
BPH is a very common condition in middle aged men. Mild symptoms can begin as early as age 40 in some men. Approximately fifty percent of all men over age 50 have prostate problems and the number escalates to where as high as ninety-five percent of all men over the age of 80 have prostate problems.
